We are celebrating 100 years of Forest Week and 120 years since the first afforestation near Shipka!
This year’s Forest Week marks the 100th anniversary of the first celebration of the holiday in our country. The event is held under the motto “A century of eternity in creation, preservation, and care.” Forest Week is celebrated during the first full week of April. Volunteers and a team of professionals, ecologists, youth workers, etc., specialists from YDCMA and United Avangard Artist, on this occasion closed the third edition of the Eco Academy in the village of Srednogorovo with a large afforestation. They themselves provided 10 of Black locust planting materials for this purpose. Seedlings – red American oak, wild cherry, and maple – were provided by “State Forestry Enterprise” Kazanlak. Thus, together with the support of representatives of the town hall of Shipka and representatives of the equestrian club “General Vladimir Stoychev” from the equestrian base in the village of Zmeevo, we planted 120 trees. The young forest is located in the “Stara Reka” area near the town of Shipka, close to the tomb of “Shishmanets.” The number of trees is not accidental, as it marks the 120th anniversary of the first afforestation near Shipka. On this occasion, a memorial plaque was erected, which we share in the picture below.

The State Forestry – Kazanlak and the town hall of Shipka joined forces at the beginning of March in the first afforestation action of 2025 at this location. Then, 110 seedlings of wild cherry, red oak, sweet chestnut, evodia, and other honey plants were planted. We hope that the grove of young ecologists from the project “Eco Academy 2024-2025” will endure! This week is also a professional holiday for foresters and forestry employees in Bulgaria.
