Our campaign “Say no to harassment” continues

In order to continue our campaign “Say no to harassment” we invited everyone to participate in a discussion around a “round table”. The discussion was held on the 20th of March 2008.

Apart from YDCMA’s members and their partners at Ivan Hadzhienov highschool, among those that took part in the discussion were workers from Children’s pedagogic room, Kazanlak municipality, Vis Vitalis radio station, Press tv, the “Week” newspaper, the “Iskra” newspaper, the “Valley” newspaper, Children’s centre, the Child protection agency, Vocational High School of Plastic Arts “Academician Dechko Uzunov”, “Exarch Antim I” High School, Humanitarian High School “St.St. Cyril and Methodius” and Vocational High School for Light Industry and Tourism. During the discussion we laid out the following agents promoting violence and harassment:

  1. Moral justification of the abuser
  2. Spreading of violence by media
  3. Misinterpretation of the consequences by the victim

According to the employees from the Children’s pedagogic room the main problem is that both proving that the offense has occurred and the removal of the offender is hard.

Our partners from Kazanlak’s schools said that according to thema big problem is the the young generation has lost all respect for their families, parents and teachers.

It was suggested that the problem should be discussed in parents-teacher meetings also. Another possible solution could be extracarricular activities in which older kids teach younger ones.

Overall the concept of the campaign was assessed as incredibly useful. A suggestion was made that a group should be created in order to continue work with the ideas, specifically an idea about a broadcast made by youngsters. Eventually we hope that this idea will be presented in front of the municipal and district authorities in search of funding for the project.
