My Feelings and Impressions of Bulgaria by KARINE from Armenia

Coming to Bulgaria for my ESC project at the Eco Center “Green Europe” has been one of
the most special and meaningful experiences of my life. From the very first day, I was enchanted
by the beauty of nature, the charm of the architecture, and the calm rhythm of village life. As
someone who has always admired buildings and their stories, I was fascinated by the traditional
Bulgarian houses — their wooden details, red roofs, and the way they blend harmoniously with
the landscape. Every street, every courtyard seemed to hold a quiet poetry, a reflection of the
country’s deep connection to both history and nature.
One of the most memorable parts of my stay was our visit to Kazanlak, a city known for its
roses — a symbol of beauty, love, and peace. Before coming here, I had only associated
Kazanlak with the famous Rose Valley and its delicate fragrance. However, during our visit, I
discovered another side of the city that I had never known about — its huge weapon factory,
one of the largest in Bulgaria. We even had the chance to visit it, and the experience truly
impressed me. Seeing this place up close made me realize how deeply contrasts can live side by
side: the softness of roses and the hardness of metal, peace and power, beauty and industry.
Still, Srednogorovo became the place closest to my heart. The village, surrounded by soft
hills and endless greenery, radiates a feeling of simplicity and peace that I had long been
searching for. Every morning, I woke up to the gentle song of birds and the soft meowing of cats
outside my window. The fresh air and calm atmosphere brought a sense of stillness that
grounded me deeply. Walking through the village, I admired the red-tiled roofs, the blooming
flowers — especially the roses in front of the houses — and the friendly smiles of the people
passing by. Our walks with a friend through the fields and forests became moments of true
connection, not only with nature but also with each other.
The mountains of Bulgaria also touched my heart deeply. Their quiet strength and
breathtaking views reminded me of my homeland, Armenia, which is also surrounded by
mountains. Seeing those high peaks made me feel at home in a foreign land — it was as if nature
itself was whispering something familiar. I have always loved mountains; they give me peace,
inspiration, and a sense of belonging.
Another project “Ecology as a lifestyle” under “Erasmus+” programe took place in
Pamporovo, a breathtaking mountain area surrounded by forests and fresh air. Being there with
participants from Spain, Italy, Bulgaria and Portugal made the experience even more special. I
loved the people so much — their kindness, openness, and the positive energy they brought
every day. Together, we explored Pamporovo, shared laughter, stories, and unforgettable
moments that made our time there truly magical.

As I look back on my time here, I realize that Bulgaria gave me more than memories — it
gave me feelings, lessons, and a deeper appreciation of life’s simple beauty. I will carry with me
the friendships I made, the peace I found, and the belief that true change always begins within
ourselves.
Now that the project in Pamporovo has ended, I am back in Srednogorovo, surrounded once
again by its calm hills and peaceful nature. This time, I feel even more connected to the place.
With more time to explore Bulgaria, I keep discovering new corners of its beauty.
Bulgaria continues to surprise and inspire me. It’s a country of contrasts — of roses and
weapons, mountains and valleys, tradition and modernity — yet everything exists in balance.
What stays with me most is not only the beauty I’ve seen, but also the feelings it awakened in
me: peace, gratitude, and a deeper understanding of life’s simple wonders. Wherever I go next, I
will carry these impressions with me, along with the friendships, memories, and quiet moments
that made this journey unforgettable.
