World day of the Earth and Youth

The World Earth Day is celebrated each year on 22 April to draw attention to the conservation of the planet and the preservation of life in it.The initiative was celebrated for the first time on 22 April 1970 in the United States and Canada. In 1990, the celebration of our planet was declared international, and Bulgaria was included in it in 1993. The global aim is to bring together people from around the world to protect the environment.

Based on the idea of the “St. Paisii Hilendarski” primary school in the village of Hadji Dimitrovo and with the passion for work of the pedagogical staff, in 2018 in the Municipality of Kazanlak began the celebration of the World Earth Day. The initiative was under the motto “Nature: a precious gift”.

The volunteers and the team of YDCMA organization unite the forces and the desire of ecologists, youngsters and institutions in the face of RIEW-Stara Zagora, “St. Paisii Hilendarski” Primary School in Hadji Dimitrovo village, “Dr. P. Beron” Primary School in Sheinovo village and “St. Kiril and Metodiy” Primary School in Shipka town to celebrate the initiative.

Since early April, the three schools have been running a drawing competition and preparations with an environmental educational focus. Paula Salim took first place in it, and the audience award was won (in the choice of students) by Rabbit Zayo. Mitko Tashev received a diploma of young ecologist, while Emil Emilov and Sami Emin took the second and third place in the competition.

The culmination of the World Earth Day campaign was on 20 April 2018, when an eco-quiz was held, from which children learned new, important facts about natural beauties and ways of nature conservation. Many students also took part in the festive program with many songs and dances.

Guests of the event were experts from the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Waters of Stara Zagora, who handed out participation certificates, hats and eco-souvenirs.

The results of the “Clean Environment 2018” competition, announced by the Ministry of Environment and Water and EMEPA, became clear during the initiative. The manager of “St. Paisii Hilendarski” Primary School, initiator of the eco-initiative for Earth Day, boasted about his approved project “School Yard” -“a desirable place for recreation and sport”-.
